The physical decline that would eventually lead Louis XIV to his death, began on the 10th of August of 1715. Upon his return from a hunting expedition the King began to feel a sharp pain in his leg. A fortnight later he was bedridden. This was to mark the beginning of a slow death, surrounded by his loyal followers in his royal chambers.
